This is what people around me said to me when I decided to leave my corporate stable job and join in an exciting career which is financial planning industry.

What’s financial planning? Is it about insurance? Unit trust is it? Can earn money meh? Aiya no one needs financial planning la…
It feels awful when people surrounding you do not understand you. They do not know, why, you do what you do. Simon Sinek always emphasizes on the “why”, the purpose and driving fuel behind your passion.
So, why do I join financial planning industry?
Since childhood, I understand the importance of proper finance management. Coming from a humble family background, my parents worked very hard to provide the best for our family.
During my parents’ time, financial knowledge was scarce and my family had gotten significant amount of money vanished in stock market crash.
Culprit?
Low financial literacy.
Does this sound familiar to some of you? With this incident, I was constantly told by my parents that they can only afford local university. My childhood dream of studying abroad was utterly shattered. Deep in my heart, I knew I was left with one choice, one and only one.

Fast forward to 1st June 2007, I was sitting in front of computer desktop with my sweaty palms and fast pounding heart.
Slowly, I filled in my login information, and hit enter button. The next thing I saw was Congratulations! Woohoo! I managed to secure a full scholarship to study in the US! This scholarship was one of my best birthday gifts, ever.
Till today, I am very grateful, for without this scholarship, I would not have seen the outside world and widen my perspective. Therefore, financial planning is deeply heartfelt for me.
Influenced by my own experience, I believe every child deserves good education via proper family financial planning. During my working journey, I have met people from different walks of life. I remember Mr Chai and his kids’ education planning.
My heart sank when I encountered Mr Chai, a low income earner, who had suffered financial loss in children education planning due to lack of professionalism in agent and Mr Chai’s low financial literacy. Mr Chai did not know what was he financially committed to.
At that moment, I realized the importance of becoming professional Certified Financial Planner (CFP). I want to assist people to better manage their finances, and also their lives. Money is not everything, but everything needs money. Once your personal finance is well managed, your life will be good.

So, who am I?
